Ledger Review
Overview
Ledger is the world's leading hardware wallet manufacturer, having sold over 6 million devices since its founding in 2014. Ledger wallets store your cryptocurrency private keys in a secure chip (SE/CC EAL5+ certified), keeping them completely offline and protected from hackers, malware, and phishing attacks. For anyone holding significant crypto, a Ledger device is widely considered essential.
The Ledger ecosystem includes the hardware devices (Nano S Plus, Nano X, and Stax) and the Ledger Live companion app, which provides portfolio management, built-in exchange functionality, staking, and DeFi access. With support for over 5,500 cryptocurrencies and tokens, Ledger covers virtually every digital asset in existence.
Pros
- Gold standard in crypto security with CC EAL5+ Secure Element
- 5,500+ cryptocurrencies and tokens supported
- Ledger Live app provides portfolio management, staking, and DeFi
- Multiple device options from $79 to $399
- 6M+ devices sold — most trusted hardware wallet brand

Our Testing Results
Tested by Elena Volkov on March 12, 2026 using a real BTC deposit. All results independently verified.
Value & Staking
Ledger doesn't offer traditional bonuses, but the Ledger Live app provides access to staking rewards, DeFi yields, and built-in swap functionality. Users can earn passive income on their crypto holdings through integrated staking services.
Occasional promotions include bundle deals, seasonal discounts, and partnership offers with crypto exchanges and services.
Features & Products
Ledger offers three main hardware wallets: the Nano S Plus ($79, USB-C, 100+ app capacity), the Nano X ($149, Bluetooth + USB-C, 100+ apps), and the Stax ($399, touchscreen, e-ink display, wireless charging). Each model provides the same core security with different form factors and features.
Ledger Live serves as the central hub for managing crypto — buy, sell, swap, stake, and manage DeFi positions across 5,500+ supported tokens, all while keeping keys safely on the hardware device.
Supported Cryptos
Ledger supports over 5,500 cryptocurrencies and tokens — virtually every digital asset of note. This includes all major coins, ERC-20 tokens, BEP-20 tokens, and tokens across 30+ blockchain networks.
Through Ledger Live, users can directly interact with DeFi protocols, swap tokens, and manage NFTs while maintaining the security of hardware-based key storage.
Security
Ledger's Secure Element chip (CC EAL5+ certified) is the same technology used in banking cards and passports. Private keys never leave the device, and all transaction signing happens on the hardware. Even if your computer is compromised with malware, your keys remain safe.
In 2020, Ledger experienced a data breach of their e-commerce database (customer emails and shipping addresses), but no hardware wallets or crypto funds were compromised. The company has since strengthened its data handling practices. The wallets themselves maintain a perfect security record.
Mobile Experience
Ledger Live is available as a mobile app for iOS and Android. The Nano X connects via Bluetooth for wireless mobile management, while the Nano S Plus connects via USB-C. The mobile app provides full portfolio management, staking, and transaction signing capabilities.
Customer Support
Ledger provides customer support via email, live chat, and a comprehensive knowledge base. The Ledger Academy offers educational content about crypto security. Support quality has improved significantly in recent years.

Setup was straightforward and the interface is clean. Ledger makes managing multiple cryptos easy. Security features give me peace of mind.
Good wallet overall. The transaction signing process is clear and the supported coin list keeps expanding. Would love to see more DeFi integrations.
